FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

REALTOR® Foundation Gives $67,000 to Fight Homelessness in 2006

-- Grant announcement largest in organization’s history --

INDIANAPOLISDue to an outstanding fundraising year, the REALTOR® Foundation will award $67,000 to five area charities that supply housing for victims of unforeseen circumstances. This amount exceeds what has been granted in each of the two years since the REALTOR® Foundation reinvigorated its mission to assist central Indiana’s homeless.

The REALTOR® Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the Metropolitan Indianapolis Board of REALTORS® (MIBOR), and supports organizations throughout central Indiana that combat all causes of homelessness, including domestic violence, natural disaster and job loss.

“We know that there are urgent, ongoing housing needs in central Indiana and there are a great number of organizations working to solve problems for the growing number of Hoosiers without safe, decent or affordable housing,” said Kathy Hall, 2005 Foundation president and a central Indiana REALTOR®.

“REALTORS® feel strongly that the rate of homelessness in our communities is unacceptable and they have stepped up in a big way over the last few years by giving to the Foundation,” she added. “Their generosity has allowed us to stretch our grant allocations to five worthy groups, something we really strived to do after realizing the extensive need in our area.”

2006 funding recipients are:

·          Coburn Place Safe Haven (Marion County)

·          WellSpring (Morgan County)

·          Desert Rose (Morgan County)

·          Holy Family Transitional Housing (Marion County)

·          Sheltering Wings Center for Women (Hendricks County)

In addition to these newest 2006 commitments, multi-year grants awarded in 2005 will continue to be utilized throughout 2006 by the Indianapolis Interfaith Hospitality Network and Hancock Hope House.

The formal announcement of the grants took place at the 10th Annual REALTOR® Foundation Live & Silent on Saturday, Oct. 8. In addition to grant announcements, the event also serves as one of the organization’s premier fundraising activities.

This year's event was sponsored by eGIX, Inc., one of the nation’s largest providers of integrated voice and data services, and the largest corporate contributor to the Foundation. eGIX has been affiliated with the Foundation for three years.

“We’ve really seen the Foundation grow and expand its reach this year with five grants in three counties,” said Steve Johns, president and CEO of eGIX, Inc. “We are proud to support the Foundation’s efforts to grow. They’ve clearly made a positive and immediate impact on so many lives.”
